Retro-bolting
Making routes safe for climbers is a never ending job. Thailand has a number of conditions which makes retro-bolting especially important: A non-stainless steel expansion bolt exposed to the moisture and salt of the sea air and to the chemicals within the rock can becomes dangerously unsafe within one years time. We consider it prudent to use only glue-in stainless bolts.

Replacing the old equipment is a difficult as well as a dangerous task. Some of us are donating our time and experience for the benefit of all the visiting climbers. This effort has been mostly financed by those who have been doing the work.

In order to continue our retro-bolting activities, we find it necessary to ask for donations of money and gear. If you enjoyed your climbing activities on Phi-Phi Island and appreciated our efforts in making your climbing safe and enjoyable, please help us. Make your donate carefully as there have been some people misrepresenting themselves and use donations as personal enrichment.

We hope this guide book helps you enjoy your climbing here. We only mentioned the routes that are safely bolted; but the area is big and we have many projects. Please help us turn this area into a world class destination in the next few years.

Sincerely,
The Rebolting Crew.
